Jorge Carlos Soler Castillo (born February 25, 1992) is a Cuban professional baseball outfielder and designated hitter for the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, and San Francisco Giants.
Soler played for the Cuban national baseball team in international competition. He defected from Cuba in 2011, seeking a career in MLB. After establishing residency in Haiti, Soler signed a nine-year contract with the Cubs. He made his MLB debut in 2014 and won the 2016 World Series with the Cubs. The Cubs traded Soler to the Royals after the 2016 season. He led the American League in home runs in 2019.
Traded to Atlanta in 2021, Soler won the 2021 World Series and earned the World Series Most Valuable Player Award. Soler signed with the Marlins before the 2022 season. In 2023, he earned his first All-Star selection. Soler signed with the San Francisco Giants for the 2024 season and began the season as their designated hitter. The Giants traded Soler to the Braves during the 2024 season and the Braves traded him to the Angels after the 2024 season.

When Oklahomans watched reports of Gov. David Walters's 1992 State of the State Message earlier this month, they were confronted with an extraordinary political and personal drama that began unfolding soon after he took office a year ago. A reporter for National Public Radio was questioned for more than four hours today by a special counsel on who may have leaked a statement last fall by Anita F. Hill, who accused Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment. The reporter, Nina Totenberg, was one of two journalists who first reported Professor Hill's accusations during Senate hearings on Judge Thomas's nomination to the Supreme Court.

The sportswriter LISA OLSON settled her sexual harassment lawsuit against the New England Patriots, their owner, VICTOR KIAM, and several current and former employees, her lawyer said today. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. Olson filed suit in April 1991, naming Kiam; the former general manager, PATRICK SULLIVAN ; the former public relations director, JAMES OLDHAM, and three players -- tight end ZEKE MOWATT, wide receiver MICHAEL TIMPSON and running back ROBERT PERRYMAN.

The Conston Corporation said it would file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection from its creditors, the same course followed in December by Cascade International Inc., its former parent. The women's apparel retailer has been unable to obtain financing to replace a $6 million credit line from Cascade, which had owned 53 percent of Conston, before filing for bankruptcy after its chairman, Victor Incendy, disappeared.

The Tacoma Boatbuilding Company said today that it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the second time in seven years. The company, which builds and repairs ships, said it had filed because of "the poor performance and subsequent abandonment" of its luxury-yacht unit, and the loss of repair work for the Navy. The company filed for Chapter 11 protection in 1985, and emerged from bankruptcy in 1987. The company said shareholders' equity was a negative $18 million.
