OMAHA, Neb., Oct. 24. -- Gen. John C. Cowin, special counsel for the United States in the Union Pacific foreclosure suit, last evening admitted that there was more than a probability that the sale would be postponed, but he would not make a positive statement to that effect. He started for St. Paul to-day to confer with Judge Sanborn and Special Master Cornish on Monday.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 21. -- Secretary of State Sherman puts his foot down prompt upon disquieting reports about imminent sensational developments growing out of the negotiations with Spain. All day Saturday there was newspaper anxiety to obtain from the Department of State the whole or the substance of a dispatch of 2,000 words said to have been sent from Madrid to Washington.

OMAHA, Neb., Oct. 25. -- Judge W.D. Cornish, Special Master Commissioner for the sale of the Union Pacific, and Judge W.R. Kelley, General Solicitor for the receivers, had their first news of the postponement of the sale from The Associated Press this morning. They were both very much astonished, and declined to say anything further than that the news was a great surprise and completely upset them.
