William Sylvester Harley (December 29, 1880 – September 18, 1943) was an American mechanical engineer and businessman. He was one of the four co-founders of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company.

FORTRESS MONROE, Va., Dec. 28.--On the evening of the 24th inst, a fight occurred at Smithville, a small collection of houses on the road from Hampton to Yorktown, and generally known as the "Half-way House," in which two colored men were shot and instantly killed and two more badly out by a white man named Howard Dunn, a farmer.
