LEAD: The McDonnell Douglas Corporation said it received nine down payments of unspecified amounts to reserve future launching dates for commercial satellites on its Delta II medium-launch vehicle. McDonnell said it would begin launching satellites for commercial customers in late 1988 or early 1989 and would have the capacity to launch up to 12 commercial satellites a year in the early 1990's.

LEAD: The Xerox Corporation and E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company said they plan to form a joint venture to develop and manufacture electronic imaging products. The new firm, called DX Imaging, would combine the existing technology of both companies. The companies said they had already invested a total of $80 million in this technology and expect to invest another $40 million in 1987 to support the joint venture.

LEAD: Canadian Airlines International has agreed to buy six advanced-technology Boeing 767-300ER airplanes and take options on eight additional planes for more than $1.6 billion, the company said. The extended-range plane has a fuselage 21 feet longer than the 767-200 version, which went into service in late 1982, and a range of 6,600 miles, with increased passenger capacity and cargo room.
